"Un an après "Watched Watchers" et deux jour pour jour après un premier volet qui nous avait familiarisés avec son IDM organique marquée par le label Warp des années 90, on retrouve le goût de Valgidrà pour l'onirisme inconfortable de Boards of Canada et de l'Aphex Twin spontané des débuts sur "Warplush Vol 2". Bien que plus resserré (28 minutes seulement), ce troisième long format parvient à générer le même genre de refuge à rebours des tendances aseptisées de la musique électronique, glissant progressivement d'un beatmaking anguleux à synthés ténébreux ("Astral Warrior", "Jigsaw") vers une atmosphère de mélancolie cotonneuse ("Release" et "Caribbean Plastic Bags" en particulier, dont les synthés stratosphériques aux textures granuleuses ne sont pas sans évoquer la facette ambient trop sous-estimée d'un Moby), les rythmiques laissant peu à peu s’imposer mélodies cristallines et nappes éthérées sans pour autant se départir d'une certaine étrangeté troublante. Les rêves agités sont en effet toujours au centre des préoccupations du Rennais, qui a profité d'une période d'insomnies et de sommeil réduit pour enregistrer cette 5e sortie (en comptant deux EPs en compagnie de Konejo) pour IRM Netlabel, dont les moments d'apparent apaisement semble systématiquement voués à l'instabilité, qu'il s'agisse des sursauts glitchés de la ritournelle "Little", des marmonnements subliminaux de "Low", des nappes hachurées de "Five Phones", des harmonies changeantes de "Trail And Constellations" ou de l'intrigant double beat décalé de "Bird E"."

"One year ago, we released "Watched Watchers", and two years ago to the day, a first volume of "Warplush" that got us acquainted with Valgidrà's organic IDM influenced by Warp's 90s era. Now, the French musician's taste for Boards of Canada's uncomfortable dreams and Aphex Twin's spontaneous beginnings is on full display with "Warplush Vol 2", a tighter (28 minutes only) third album that manages to create the same kind of refuge from the sanitized tendencies of today's electronic music. Gradually slipping from angular beatmaking fuelled with dark synths ("Astral Warrior", "Jigsaw") towards an atmosphere of hazy melancholia ("Release" and "Caribbean Plastic Bags" in particular, whose stratospheric synths with grainy textures also remind us of the underestimated ambient side of Moby), the rhythms gradually let crystalline melodies and ethereal pads take the front seat without departing from a certain disturbing strangeness. Restless dreams are still the main concern of Valgidrà, who recorded this 5th release for IRM Netlabel (including a couple of collaborative EPs with Konejo) during a period of insomnia and sleep deprivation. Here, those moments of apparent peace seem systematically doomed to instability, whether through the glitched bursts of "Little", the subliminal mumblings of "Low", the chopped up pads of "Five Phones", the ever changing harmonies of "Trail And Constellations" or the intriguing offbeat rhythms of "Bird E"."
