Since the very beginning of the project, about two and a half years ago, the minimalist and hypnotic music of Scorched Earth Policy Lab, moniker of the prolific Thierry Arnal (Amantra, fragment., 2W, Hast, [TH.A]...), never fails to captivate us. The French musician based in Lyon already released nearly 30 productions under this name, exploring and soundtracking a dystopian sonic world made of black matter radiations, disturbing pulsations, corrosive frequencies and nerve-racking crescendos, an uncompromising palette that lurks at the crossroads of dark ambient, abrasive drone and synthetic abstraction, and whose power of evocation is only matched by the magnetism of textures as much futuristic as they are organic. Always consistent but always different, SEPL makes no exception to the rule with this new EP made of one single longform progression, 16 minutes of swarming and hallucinatory tension that lovers of gloomy and immersive music, and in particular perhaps the longtime admirers of Lustmord, Final, Scorn or Cezary Gapik, will appreciate without the shadow of a doubt.

Depuis ses prémices somme toute récentes, il y a deux ans et demi, ce projet minimaliste et hypnotique du stakhanoviste Thierry Arnal (Amantra, fragment., 2W, Hast ou désormais [TH.A]), continue de nous captiver à chaque nouvelle sortie. Avoisinant déjà la trentaine de réalisations sous cette identité, le Lyonnais y explore un univers dystopique fait de radiations noires, de pulsations malsaines, de fréquences corrosives et de crescendos anxiogènes, une palette sonique sans concession qui louvoie entre dark ambient, drone abrasif et abstraction synthétique, et dont le pouvoir d'évocation n'a d'égal que le magnétisme de textures accommodant comme rarement le futuriste et l'organique. Toujours cohérent mais toujours différent, SEPL ne déroge pas à la règle avec ce nouvel EP constitué d'une longue progression malaisante, 16 minutes de tension grouillante et hallucinée que les amateurs de musiques dark et immersives, et en particulier peut-être les admirateurs de Lustmord, Final, Scorn (sans les beats mais l'esprit est là !) ou Cezary Gapik, sauront assurément apprécier.
